I did this at the beginning of my divorce and have done so since. I don't require a lease to be signed but do require a contract. ALso deposit and $x of the deposit is non-refundable for a background check. I ask for reference, specifiy the last residence. Right now I have x renters on my property and everyone works out great. Another good piece of advice, put a lock on your bedroom just for an added safety measure.

You're not in the wrong forum just someone's opinion. Divorced and needing advice on being alone and needed a roommate, I'm sure lots of divorcees' have done just that. I have, right now I don't have a roommate because my son is moving in for x months before leaving for school. So he'll pay rent. You have to develop thick skin, ignore those that don't provide good advice and those that think they can police the forum As for me, I'm a flirt and when the conversation goes sexual, I'm usually the first jumping on it. You just have to put an ad on CL and interview people. My son is looking for a room to rent in our area and it is indeed a process for both parties. You need to find someone you fit with, someone you can stand to see day in and day out and someone that will be responsible. If you don't like loud parties, you can't be roommates with someone who does..same goes for music or pets. Good luck but it IS a good idea if you have the room and don't mind sharing your home.

I have been responding to people on who are looking for rooms. Unbelievable stuff I get. Most, by far, are x friendly, have dogs, don't want to sign contracts, etc. Hadthat only wanted 'nice hard wood floors',that wanted to be with 'spritually minded people, whether that be tantra, manifestation, Wicca, Buddhism, Paganism, Magick, chanting, meditation', and all claim to be drama free.
