Starbucks is dying Which I am fairly indifferent about. However, I find it odd that there is a new innovation in the world of 'bucks. On Saturday I stopped at a drive-thru and got a coffee (grande drip, extra cream) and for the first time ever, my disposable cup's lid had a green thingie plugged into it such that the coffee could not splash out. Like so: So, is this a last ditch effort by Starbucks to not close 600 of its stores? It seems an odd time for such an innovation. Mostly I am way too caffeinated today.

It is a neat idea, but the proliferation of use-once-and-discard objects offends me. Maybe your dog was reacting to the chemicals leaching from the heated plastic of the stirrer?!

I heard they couldn't offer free wifi at 'Bucks because the company has an iron-clad contract with the service provider they started out with. As a result, Starbucks is obliged to offer paid subscriptions only. They'll have to wait for that contract to expire to be able to offer wifi for free. So.... why would I go to a Starbucks when I could go to the small dyke-owned coffee house that not only serves Stumptown coffee, but also has free wifi? I do hear that the Buck offers good employee benefits - my friend manages - but I just don't prefer their coffee, and they have taken over more than beloved local chain here, too. eh. PDX is lousy with good coffee.

Absolute and total crap. Their PR people have a helluva lot to answer for.

Starbucks is actually behind on the little stirrer/stopper thingy. A coffee shop around here has had them for a couple years now. It is odd that they are spending money on them considering they are closing x stores.

Last week my coworker came in with a plastic Starbucks coffee cup that is reusable. It looked like the regular iced coffee cup but hadlayers for insulation. I don't see them on their website. The store said they were selling like hotcakes.

I wish they would offer a recycling bin for their plastic recyclables in the store. At least in cities with curbside recyling. What's the point of making the disposable cups out of recyclable plastic and then throwing them away?

If I could somehow guarantee that their underpaid workers wouldn't be the only ones to suffer, I'd say Starbucks deserves nothing short of complete financial ruin.
